Aig-Imokhuede & Wigwe;Helmsmen of Access Bank
With an eye to reducing over heads following the completion of its acquisition of Intercontinental Bank, Access Bank relieved 1,500 employees of the acquired bank of their positions. according to reports, they where served disengagement letters this past Friday. The news report below from Punch Newspapers, reflects the official position of the Bank.

This exercise would ordinarilly have been above board in my opinion if not for a viral broadcast I recieved
this past weekend, which I am sure many others recieved as well. While noone can verify the
authenticity of the claims contained in the broadcast, it would be fair if someone somewhere
can check the veracity of these accusations that bother on unethical conduct.

TEXT OF BROADCAST:
Access Bank Is Set To Sack Over 1500 Staff Of Intercontinental Bank
On 30/01/12 Itis reliably gathered that all is set to weed over 1500
staff of INTERCONTINENTAL BANK by its new owner, Access Bank without
severance package 30/01/2012.The basis of the massive sack is the new
appraisal system which Access Bank introduced in INTERCONTINENTAL BANK on
8th Nov 2011.This appraisal system made it compulsory for an officer of
ABO level to bring in over N150M in two months in current accounts or
risk being sacked. They termed it OPERATION JUST CAUSE(OJC).We also gathered
that in Access Bank, the OJC in operation is just opening of new accounts
with zero balances. The question is,why did't they(Access) use the same
measuring standard in Intercontinental Bank,i.e opening accounts with zero
balances? We do remember that the Governor of CBN said that the financial
system sanitization would lead to jobs preservations among other benefits,
but it appears the reverse is the case now for Intercontinental Bank staff.
we call on well meaning Nigerians, especially Mr. President(Goodluck Jonathan)
and Honourable members of National Assemble to swing into action by stopping
Access Bank from carrying out this massive weeding of INTERCONTINENTAL BANK
STAFF(over 1500) as this would cause untold hardship to the affected staff.
This would certainly have adverse effect on our economy as every average
worker in Nigeria has over 20 persons depending on him/her. Once again,we
sincerely call on Mr. President to save some souls. Please help broadcast
until it gets to NASS, CBN and GEJ.
