When You Move the stone, your Lazarus shall come forth
Is it that He that had purposed to raise the dead couldn't by a simple Word roll away the stone at the entrance of the tomb?
What was one Puny Stone boulder to THE ONE who in response to the Jews seeking evidence of the Signature of Authority under which He operated spoke thus in John 2:19 "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Yet he demanded that "they" take away they stone.
Martha hesitated....she worried more about the stench? Unbelievable..Wasn't her brother coming back to life her utmost priority anymore?
I bet she expected Jesus to do a "Beam me Up Scotty" for non Trekkies who may not understand that phrase, maybe she intended for Jesus to perform a "Saka don Port O" .
I cringe to imagine what would have happened if Jesus had just turned and walked away like most of us would when someone in need turns down a lifeline because It entails some sweat and grime (Lazy lots we are).
Yet Jesus stood and all He asked was that she believed......
Honestly what can be tougher? Moving a Stone or Believing Lazarus will rise? Or didn't she love Laz enough to confront his stench if it meant a shot at having her brother back?
This puts paid to the lie people tell each other in "real life" whilst in the throes of infatuation when they speak of how they will without a thought take a bullet for each other. Of course in movies it's a different matter; forget Romeo and Juliet they supposedly committed double suicide. I am talking the kind of sacrifice in Adeyemi Afolayan's " Ija Ominira" (if you ever did the movies at Roxy Cinema Apapa circa 79 when the movie was shown on the big screen, who knows we might have just been sitting next to each other, my parents took us to about 4 showings) anyways, I refer to that legendary scene were the besotted young lady leapt in front of her beau screaming as the arrow meant for him entered her bowels her last words were "....Ajayi, Ololufemi Iku e ni mo gba ku yi o" and she breathed her last. Ha!
After all said and done it was either the stone be moved or Lazarus slept till the resurrection morning....
Thank God for Jesus! His insistence prodded Martha to action and "they" moved the Stone.....and the rest is Living History
